Melissia Pretty, 24, from Bramhall, Cheshire, has told how she can empathise with US pro-golfer Paige Spiranac who this week hit back at critics that said she'd only been invited to compete at an elite Dubai tournament because of her model looks.
She told FEMAIL how she was because of abuse on social media criticising her glamorous style on the course and even calling her a 'prostitute'.

Melissia faced accusations that she wasn't good enough to be a professional golfer and received abusive messages on social media saying
'I was basically bullied into giving up the sport I love because of my looks, social media, contacts and personality,' she said.
'I was told I wasn't good enough to play on tour and must be "doing things" to get my invites to play and sponsorships.'
'I received hate mail, Facebook messages and anonymous emails saying that I was ruining the game of golf and making it into a sex appeal-based sport.
'The amateur game was cruel to me. They didn't like how I looked, what I wore, the attention I attracted.

The 22-year-old social media phenomenon, who has more than 480,000 followers on Instagram ended up finishing equal 101st in a field of 108 at the Dubai Ladies Masters, eight strokes from the cut
'My surname never helped either. People think I must have changed it by deed poll, but it's my real name.'
Melissia admitted that even as a schoolgirl, she felt that her peers didn't warm to her.
She said: 'I'm loud and opinionated and I've never been shy. Then I started playing golf and I always felt there was kind of a stigma around me.'
As a full-time amateur golfer, Melissia practiced eight or nine hours every day, rain or shine.
And as she made a name for herself she was often sent clothes to wear by sports brands.

Fahsion is important to Melissia and she likes to wear glamorous clothing both on and off the golf course
'I'd wear a short skirt with shorts built in underneath - a lot like tennis players wear - and a fitted polo top.
'For me, fashion is important and I want to look good.'
She points out that her outfits may have been less traditional but they were still proper golf clothes.
'Brands were trying to attract a younger audience and make golf clothes fashionable,' she said.
However, not everyone was impressed by her glamorous appearance on the course.
People were not impressed by her non-traditional golf attire, but Melissia points out that she was wearing outfits very similar to what a tennis player would wear
